Kids First serves children from birth to eighteen who have been abused and/or neglected. We also serve their non-offending caregivers. In one program, Child First, we provide in-home intensive Child Parent Psychotherapy to traumatized children and their caregivers.

Last year, 274 children were served through Kids First. There are two therapists and Family Resource Partners who provide services specifically to Dare County children. Forensic interviews and child medical evaluations are available to Dare County children at the center in Elizabeth City.

We always need volunteers for help at our various fundraising events. We also need very small, new stuffed animals and toys for the children who come to the center or are served in-home. Of course, donations are most needed, as they are vital in meeting the match requirements for grants we receive. Delving into our website and resources, then spreading the word about the availability of our services is a tremendous help to Kids First. The more people are aware of our services, the more children will receive comprehensive, evidence-based services from clinicians with decades of experience in child abuse-specific treatment.
