We partner with our donors and community to provide access to nutritional food, ensuring that no one worries about where their next meal will come from.
Starting from a place that treats others as we would want to be treated ourselves, we combine more than ten high-quality programs with convenient service to help people that live OR work in Dare County and are experiencing food insecurity. We serve more clients in Dare County than any other feeding assistance organization.
Through the generosity of our donors, a wide range of food choices that appeal to individual tastes and dietary restrictions, including fresh vegetables, fruits, eggs and dairy products are reliably available to our clients.
The need is obvious and urgent. From Jan-May 2024, we have seen an increase of ~60% for our In-Store Shopping Experience. During the same period since 2023, we’ve seen an almost 200% increase.
This program provides two-weeks of food, personal supplies and pet food, based on family size. A minimum of 30 days is required between visits.
In 2023, our Summer Food for Kids program alone saw an overall increase of over 170% from 2022. It is projected to rise again in 2024.
This 16-week program provides healthy, nutritious food for children, ages 0-18 years old, throughout the summer months, when they are most vulnerable to hunger.
Our produce distributions grew by over 400% from 2023 to 2024.
Approximately half of the food we distribute overall is donated through food drives; individual donations; and retail donations from Food Lion, Harris-Teeter, Publix, Starbucks and Walmart. Local businesses, such as Barrier Island Bagels, Tommy’s Market, Tullio’s Bakery and Wink’s also donate product! And, Coastal Humane Society provides ~$1,200 in pet food and supplies each year to supplement.
However, the remaining half must be purchased, currently at market rate. It requires an investment of more than $150,000 annually.
We are independent in our operations and governance. We do not receive any governmental allotments or assistance from other feeding organizations. We are solely responsible for raising funds to cover our operations. We rely on monetary donations from individuals and businesses; grants; and special events, such as our Chefs’ Challenge.
We cannot do this work without the support of our entire community of locals, visitors, businesses and organizations! You can help us fulfill our mission to Fuel Hope and End Hunger! Make a difference where 93% of your donation goes directly to programs and you can personally see your investment in action immediately.
