Farmers Markets and Craft Fairs

In Culture & Events, Food & Drink

From Moyock to Hatteras and Everywhere in Between

From Corolla to Hatteras, Manteo to Currituck, farmers markets and craft shows are a way of life during the summer months and holiday seasons. Farmers and craftspeople work painstakingly hard to raise fruits and produce, create delicious foods, and make creative items for locals and visitors alike. Many of our neighbors depend on the income from their home based businesses they are able to set up at these markets and events, so consider planning a stop to shop at these seasonal markets instead of the usual shopping centers for your groceries and goods.

Tomato Shack

Ginger Morris appreciates the history on which their family farm stand was built. Married into a longtime local farming family, she’s been working nonstop from the sometimes too dry and sometimes too wet ground up. Through the build up from a small roadside stand to the multipurpose local product retail destination that so many make a practice of stopping by when in the area, she understands the hard work of those that made Currituck the home she loves.

Her husband Walt, like his family before him, is passionate about growing but also finding the best quality fruits and vegetables. They have cultivated friendships with other farmers in the area who share their same desire for the best result from this sometimes harsh environment.

Located in Barco, NC, take a drive a few miles or a respite from the road and see what an appreciation for history and hard work can build in a few generations. When you stop by though, don’t leave your canine companion at home, for as Ginger says, “some of the best people that walk through this market are dogs.”
