The Face Of Shipping
Your One-stop shop
The OBX Shipping Center is the go-to resource for shipping needs on the Outer Banks. Along with packing and shipping nearly anything, such as numerous wedding celebration items, the independently owned and operated one-stop-shop in Kill Devil Hills also offers private mailboxes, package receiving, greeting cards and document services including notary work, thanks to most of its employees being Notary Publics for North Carolina. “We help people with anything and everything,” says Owner Judy Hahs. “I believe our customer service is the reason we have been in business for 40 years and continue to grow.”
The business started in 1984 as Outer Banks Transit, Inc., a bus carrier service transporting people and packages from the Northern Beaches to Hatteras along the Virginia Dare Trail. Eventually, once the four-lane bypass was constructed, the services transformed into a storefront operation in Kill Devil Hills, and in 2009, Hahs and her daughter, Jennifer Hahs Wall, purchased the business from original owner, Jim Braun, and renamed it the OBX Shipping Center, Inc.
Sadly, in 2018 Wall passed away after a three-year battle with cancer; however, her memory lives on, certainly through her family but also throughout the Outer Banks community. Established in 2022, the Jennifer Hahs Wall Memorial Scholarship benefits local graduating high school seniors. “Giving back to our community is a part of our business philosophy,” says Hahs.
An effective program Wall created in 2016 continues today, in which the center partners with housekeeping staff of the area’s rental accommodations industry to reconnect guests with items they have inadvertently left behind after a stay, from computers and keys to clothing and toys. “You can’t put a price on a smile,” says Hahs. “There’s nothing like getting a box with something special in it.”
