Spring to Early Summer Calendar of Events 2024

Southern Shores Flat Top Tour
When artist Frank Stick designed his flat top homes for the 2600 acres he had purchased north of Kitty Hawk, he created an iconic vacation cottage. The concrete block homes with their flat roofs and functional clean lines are perfect for a beach setting. Sand for the concrete walls came from the beach. Locally harvested Juniper was the wood of choice. The homes were simple and inexpensive to build and today stand in stark contrast to the ten or more bedroom homes that now line Outer Banks beach. A semi-yearly event, the Southern Shores Historic Flat Top Tour, happening April 27th highlights how remarkable the Frank Stick design was.

45th Annual Wright Kite Festival
Fly kites where the Wright Brothers first took flight. An all-day event, on July 19th and 20th featuring some of the most amazing kites filling up the skies. Look for giant squid, fish, dragons and more. This free event includes kite making and face painting for kids, and stunt kite demos for everyone. Learn how to fly a stunt kite. Feel the awe-inspiring pull of a power kite or try your hand at a quad line kite.

Living Proof: Artistic Visions of Hope and Healing
Hosted by Visionary Artists Group and Dare Arts, this inaugural art project for outer banks cancer survivors and caregivers welcomes original works of visual art, music, dance, and poetry/narrative.
Deadline to enter: June 17.
Selected work will be exhibited and performed at Dare Arts,
300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Manteo, NC on Friday, July 5.
Exhibited works will remain on view through July 27.
