Warm Meals, Baskets and Bags!

Liberty Christian Fellowship will host a Thanksgiving feast on Thursday from 11am to 3pm.

Thanksgiving is just one of the many times of year our Outer Banks community comes together to lend a helping hand to our neighbors who need it most. Below are just a few reasons we can all be grateful to live in such a caring community….

For the sixth year, Liberty Christian Fellowship, located on Colington Island, will host a warm Thanksgiving feast with all the fixings on Thursday. The free meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations have been made by local businesses and are always welcome. Whether you are seeking fellowship or have come upon difficult economic times, everyone is invited to the community table. A shuttle is available for those who need transportation. Beach Food Pantry fills over 300 Thanksgiving bags.

Hands of Love, a non-profit Hatteras organization, and Lighthouse Assembly of Buxton will host a free Thanksgiving Day dinner at the Family Life Center in Buxton. The event is being held to give residents a place to share dinner together following Hurricane Matthew and its aftermath.  Dinner will be served beginning at 12 p.m.  If residents are interested in donating side dishes or dessert, they can post what they are bringing HERE.  People are asked to make dishes in throw-away pans.

The Beach Food Pantry held its first ever Thanksgiving Meal Bag program and it was a huge success. Theresa Armendarez, the pantry’s executive director, reports that well over 300 bags were packed – 50 of those shared with Ruthie’s Kitchen and nearly 100 shared this past Saturday with pantry clients.

“We still have bags to give away in December,” said Armendarez, who added that about 20 volunteers came together during a two-day period to help with the program. “We have many of our supporting churches, groups and individuals to thank for collecting and putting the bags together and then delivering them,” she said.

Roanoke Island Women’s Club provides Thanksgiving baskets to those in need.

And the Roanoke Island Women’s Club has a longstanding tradition of lending a hand at Thanksgiving time. The club, through the Dare County Department of Social Services, distributed 61 Thanksgiving baskets and 90 gift cards this Thanksgiving to local residents in need.

Thanks to these amazing local organizations and churches that have reached out to ensure every Dare County resident can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal!
