Earth Day is the largest environmental movement in the world and is being celebrated this Sunday, April 22^nd. It began in the 1970’s and is currently celebrated in 193 different countries. With the Outer Banks having such a fragile environment, it is crucial that we all take note, educate and participate in keeping our strip of land as healthy as possible. Kill Devil Hills Trash Attack – Saturday 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Volunteers will meet and register at the lot beside the KDH Fire Station, located at 1634 N. Croatan Highway, beside the Dare Centre. Once registered, volunteers select what area of Kill Devil Hills they want to help clean up.  The Town provides disposable gloves and garbage bags for the volunteers that make a difference in our community. In 2017, over 100 Trash Attack! volunteers collected more than 21 cubic yards of litter and garbage! (Rain date: Sunday, April 22, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.).

Hope Spot Cleanups Nags Head, NC – Sunday 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Join the Plastic Ocean Project and OBX 5 Minute Beach Cleanup in Nags Head this Earth Day, for a beach cleanup and Hope Spot Hatteras awareness event. Bring your Hope Spot shirt (optional, see link), a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated, and your friends and family to join in the fun! Interested in volunteering? Earth Fair OBX VI – Sunday 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Come and celebrate Earth Day on the Outer Banks at Dowdy Park in Nags Head and participate in a variety of engaging activities. The event will bring together many Outer Banks organizations that offer environmental education, so you’ll be sure to learn something new!

You will also have the opportunity to learn what you can do to implement sustainable earth-friendly practices in your own backyard, how to identify beachcombing finds or the importance of alternative energy sources. We hope you’ll join us for this once-a-year event designed to promote environmental awareness and inspire a sense of environmental stewardship along our precious coast. It will be an afternoon full of festivities for the entire family to enjoy. This event is a collaborative effort by the Coastal Environmental Educator’s Network and is free and open to the public. The event will take place rain or shine.

5th Annual OBX Cares/Earth Day – Sunday 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Join us at Outer Banks Brewing Station on Earth Day for the 5th Annual OBX Cares celebration! Local environmental organizations & craftspeople will be in the backyard sharing their knowledge and wares. Live music will be provided by local reggae sensation: Sensi Trails, joined by Kill Devil Dub Club and Space Koi. Outer Banks Community for Animal Rescue & Earth Sustainability, OBX CARES, is a day dedicated to the focus of earth-friendly mindfulness and animal rescue in Dare and surrounding counties. This day represents an assembly of organizations that were created to achieve awareness towards a more compassionate, greener community and Earth.
